Our Little Adventurer

Well, the boys are both out cold right now, so I'm going to take over the posting for this evening. Cobalt is becoming quite the little adventurer. He is just so curious and not afraid of anything. If he does something once and fails, he's right there to try again. Anyways, a few months ago my mother-in-law was in town visiting, and she's a little, well...clumsy? In the events of the weekend, she managed to run into our screen door thinking it was open. This caused us to have a very tiny hole at the bottom of the screen where it came out of the door. Yesterday, Chris had the sliding door open and the screen shut to let in some fresh air since it was unseasonably warm here. He laid down on the couch and started watching tv and a bit later looked outside. Well what does he see...Cobalt walking around on the balcony. LOL. So Chris opened up the screen door and Cobalt ran back inside, but immediately tried to get back out. HAHA. So, Chris fixed the door which prompted Cobalt to sit at the door and cry. So sad that he couldn't get back outside. Poor boy!! I guess it's time we buy them harnesses so that we can take them out. I don't want them falling off our 3rd floor balcony.

Now ever since, Cobalt seems increasingly interested in going outside. He's chased me to the door when I leave for work, sits longingly at the window and looks outside. He seems very interested. So, I think we'll be needing to keep an extra close eye on the little guy.

Oh yes, only go out with supervision. The big, bad outside can be dangerous. I envy you having open doors and windows. We just get more snow.

haha that made us laugh. we also chase mom to the door when she leaves. we just like to wander the hallways and haven't figured out how to use the elevator. we've even made mom late for class a few times trying to round us up and keep us in. she finally figured out to keep a laser pointer with her to make us run across the room so she can sneak out quick. mom's other childhood cat can open screen doors so watch out Cobalt might learn to do that too!

I like going outside, but I am used to doing it. I have big backyard to play in, and there is not much traffic in my neighborhood. I also know to stay out of the street.

Oh yes - when we lived in an apartment (on the third floor too) Mommy or Dady had to snoopervise when I went outside! But I would always try to rush out!

Lyra & Caesar always watch us when we leave and are immediately running to us when we come back. They sit at our windows and look longingly outside.

They have no idea how close they are to being free (well sort of)

What an adventure! But I agree, you need snoopervision when you go outside. Bring on the harnesses:) xxx

Cobalt sounds fearless, but it wouldn't hurt him to have respect for the out of doors. As long as he only goes out when chaperoned by an adult, he should be safe.

Once the kitties have a taste of the outside world it's hard to keep them in again. I am lucky to have a back garden to run around. Be careful, won't you? I would hate to see any of you cuties get hurt.

Here in Germany, you can buy netting to enclose the balcony - some of our neighbours do this so their cats can go out on the balcony, but not hurt themselves. Since we have no fur, we have to be indoor-only cats, and only go outside in the summer on our harnesses or in our stroller.

Once we get a taste of the outdoors, we never forget!! And we can't wait for the next time.

quite the little adventurer aren't you Cobalt! you stay inside where it is safe unless your beans are with you and you have a harness on.

i wish it would get warmer here. it is sunny, but very cold.

we're very sad to hear about those ladies. you all stay safe!

Once smelled the smell of freedog....
The maid told me the story of a cat who came before....
They were living on the 5th floor of an old apartment house back in Germany (which means it was actually more the height of a 7th floor as the apartments have really high ceilings!). One day the male cat was staring down the balcony and meowing... and a look down revealed the female cat sitting down in the street meowing back up!
She had tried to jump from the balcony onto the window sill of the bedroom and go into the bedroom via the window...unfortunately the window was closed....
After a night at the VET (a dislocated jaw and one strained front paw was all the damage - everything healed up nicely over time) the maid found the cat IN the bedroom again, behind the closed door the next evening. She did the jump right away again!!!

Yep . . . once an adventuraous kitten gets a taste of the great outdoors, it is hard to keep them inside! Mommy is always chasing Ivy away from doors and telling her NO . . . but Ivy doesn't listen.

Cute, but yes you should get some harnesses! That would be so fun for all of you! I'm a bit timid and Empress is a LOT so momma's gonna get us stroller when the weather warms up so we can go walk and she knows we will be safe. ~Queen Snickers

Huggy and Maggie did something exactly like that when they were kittens also. You can go and read all about it!

Remember to stay inside with mom and dad. They are way more fun than anything outside!!!

When we start thinking we can go outside without our harnesses, mom gets mean. She turns the hose on us, and we run right back inside. We are glad she does let us out for a few minutes in our harnesses, or in our stroller.

We agree ~ Cobalt's had a sniff of the fresh air of outdoors ~ walks with a harness seem to be a good idea though!
